Kingston, Queen's and the weekends everything books out
Convocation, Homecoming and move-in weekends put the whole region under pressure. Book those dates months ahead.
Kingston is a shade under three hours from Toronto and roughly halfway to Montreal, which makes it both a destination and a natural meeting point. Its transport demand is dominated by Queen's University and the Royal Military College.
The dates that matter
- Move-in weekend in early September — families arriving from everywhere with a car full of belongings.
- Homecoming, which fills the city entirely.
- Convocation in spring, spread over several days, with families flying in.
- Reading week and end of term, when students travel in bulk.
On those weekends, hotels and vehicles across the region are committed months ahead. A booking request two weeks out is optimistic.
Airport connections
Kingston Norman Rogers Airport handles regional service. For most international travel, families route through Pearson and drive, or through Ottawa — which is closer than Toronto from Kingston and frequently the better option. We will say which we think is better for your itinerary.
Campus addresses
The Queen's campus and the surrounding student area is dense, and on busy weekends the streets around it are not straightforward. We agree a specific pickup point rather than a residence name.
Onward to the County
Kingston pairs naturally with Prince Edward County, about an hour west — a good use of a spare day around a university weekend. See Kingston and city-to-city.
