What a car from Pearson to downtown Toronto actually costs

The single most-asked question we get, answered honestly — including the four things that move the price and the two that should never appear on your invoice.

Pearson to downtown Toronto is the most common journey we run, and the most common question about it is what it costs. The honest answer is that a black sedan on that route sits in a predictable band, and anyone quoting you a suspiciously low number is either running a meter or planning to add things later.

What sets the price

  • Vehicle class. A business sedan carries three passengers and two large cases. The moment you need a fourth seat or a fifth case you are in an SUV, and the SUV costs more because it is a bigger, thirstier vehicle.
  • Direction of travel. An arrival is more work than a departure: the chauffeur is tracking a flight, parking, walking into the terminal and waiting. A departure is a doorstep pickup at an agreed time.
  • Meet-and-greet versus curbside. Walking into arrivals with a name board involves airport parking and time on foot. Curbside is quicker and cheaper.
  • Time of day. Not surge — we do not surge — but a 4am departure is priced differently from a 10am one, and that difference is quoted up front, not applied afterwards.

What should already be in the number

Fuel, the chauffeur, insurance, 407 tolls where we use them, and the free waiting allowance on an arrival. If any of those appear as a line item after the trip, you were not given an all-inclusive fare in the first place. We explain exactly what is inside a quote in our piece on what an all-inclusive fare includes.

What is genuinely extra

Waiting beyond the free allowance, extra stops you add on the day, and a child seat if you did not mention it at booking. All three are avoidable, and all three get explained before they happen rather than after.

How it compares

Against a taxi the fixed fare is usually comparable and occasionally better, with the difference being that ours does not move if the Gardiner is closed. Against a rideshare at a quiet hour, rideshare is cheaper; against a rideshare during a storm, a convention or a Friday evening, it very often is not. We put the full comparison in black car, limo or taxi.
