Office Christmas party transport: the December scramble
Every company in Toronto holds its party in the same three weeks. The vehicles run out well before the venues do.
Corporate party season compresses into roughly three weeks in December, and the demand curve is brutal — Thursday and Friday evenings, all of them, across the whole city at once. The venue you booked in October is not the constraint. The transport is.
Why it matters more than it used to
Employers are increasingly conscious that a party with an open bar creates a duty to get people home. Arranging transport is no longer a nice touch, it is a fairly standard risk decision, and it is a cheap one relative to the alternative.
How the good version works
- Shuttles from the office to the venue at the start, so nobody drives in.
- Staged returns through the evening rather than one departure at the end.
- A final run, announced clearly and more than once.
- A named coordinator on the night so decisions are not made by committee at the door.
Book in October
By late November, the good Thursday and Friday slots in December are gone. This is the most predictable capacity crunch in our year and the easiest one to avoid.
Weather is part of the plan
December in Ontario means the party night can arrive with fifteen centimetres of snow. Vehicles run winter tyres and we move timings rather than driving faster — see winter scheduling.
Smaller teams
For a team of eight, one Sprinter for the evening is a straightforward and surprisingly affordable answer. See group transport and corporate accounts for billing it properly.
