Blue Mountain and Collingwood: winter transfers that work
Two hours in good conditions and considerably more in a squall off Georgian Bay. Vehicle choice and departure timing do the work.
Blue Mountain is roughly two hours from Toronto in fair conditions, north on the 400 and west through Barrie toward Collingwood. In January those conditions are not guaranteed, and the last stretch runs into genuine snow-belt country off Georgian Bay.
Lake effect is a real thing
Toronto can be clear while Highway 26 is in a squall. Snow coming off Georgian Bay produces bands of heavy snow and sharply reduced visibility that are local and can appear quickly. This is why we watch the forecast for your date rather than the conditions outside our window.
SUV as standard
For ski transfers we send an SUV unless you specifically ask otherwise. Ground clearance, all-wheel drive and the space for skis, boards and boots — which are long and awkward and do not go in a sedan boot with four people's luggage.
Tell us about the equipment
Four passengers with skis and boot bags is a different vehicle from four passengers with weekend bags. This is the most common sizing error on winter bookings.
Timing
Friday evening northbound and Sunday afternoon southbound are the peaks, same as cottage country. If the plan allows, travelling outside those windows makes a significant difference.
We will move you rather than risk it
If a storm is forecast we will contact you the day before to bring the departure forward or shift it. That is not caution for its own sake — arriving three hours late having been white-knuckled on Highway 26 is not the trip anyone booked.
